Wood Farm cottages offers numerous
opportunities for all types of walks. From the Farm, the bridle
pathway opposite leads up to a fell road where you may chose to
walk to the picturesque Lakeland village of Lorton, alternatively,
for the more ardent walker, take the fell road and beyond to Loweswater.
Each walk gives some very panoramic Lake District views. However,
if you simply wish to unwind, a gentle walk down our peaceful country
lane is very pleasant.
Ten
miles away at Buttermere the mountains of Red Pike, Hay Stacks and
High Stiles offer a number of impressive climbs. You may even chose
to go up and then descend into the next valley - Ennerdale Water.
At nearby Crummock Water and Loweswater there are many scenic low
level walks along and around their waters edge.
The famous Borrowdale fells are within easy reach (which is one
of the most beautiful drives in England). Great Gable, Glaramara
and Scafell amongst others are only twelve miles away.
Take
a drive to Whinlatter Forest Park where woodland walks give rise
to some spectacular view points across Bassenthwaite Lake. Journey
on to Keswick where you can combine boat trips around Derwentwater
with gentle walks along its waters edge. For the more ambitions
a climb up Skiddaw may be on the agenda where, on a good day, views
of the Isle of Man are possible.
Finally, the Cumbrian shoreline gives ample opportunity to sample
some delightful coastal walks (St Bees, 12 miles away, is the start
of the Coast to Coast walk).
In fact there is much on offer whatever your level of walking
- from the gentle stroll to the arduous climb.
